About Waimarie Alpacas

Our Alpaca farm is situated 3 kilometres past Maraekakaho's monument on State highway 50, and consists mainly of an old glacial river bed. It is, of course, dry and stony, ideal country for the Alpaca herd we have established there.

We are approximately 25 kms south-west of Hastings in the heart of the Hawkes Bay wine growing area - just a short drive from Hastings or Napier.

We are Christine & Ross Edwards and we first got interested in alpaca farming in 1999 when Christine laid eyes on these soft, gentle creatures for the first time and 'fell in love'. Thinking this was only going to be a hobby, we purchased our foundation herd consisting of 6 breeding females and 3 cria.

In October 2002, already hooked into the alpaca industry, we imported 10 pregnant Peruvian females and our herd, which also included two certified sires, just keeps on growing. We have just imported a fantastic new Sire, black this time, and some more black breeding females to satisfy those breeders looking to add colour into their herd. So if you are looking to purchase quality alpacas give us a call.

Working closely with New Zealand Alpacas Ltd and a nationwide support network team, we are able to offer the widest selection of quality animals for sale and the best possible service available in New Zealand. This association gives us access to well over 200 alpacas including some of the best stud males in the country.

Ross has a lifetime's experience in farming in New Zealand and keeps the alpacas in tip top condition. He is always ready to share his knowledge, and his advice is constantly being sort by clients and people entering the industry.

Our years of experience and a genuine love and enthusiasm for Alpacas make us an ideal choice for your introduction to alpacas or further herd development. We recommend a farm visit if you are just starting out - there's nothing like seeing these animals 'in the flesh' to appreciate how special and unique they are. Call us today to discuss your needs and book a visit.

We are active members of the NZ Alpaca Association, both being involved on the Fibre Sub-Committee last year. Christine also served for 2 years on the Northern Region Committee and has this year been co-opted into the 2005 Alpaca Expo team being the liaison person for the "Creative Fibre" section.

The mission of Waimarie Alpacas is to develop an elite herd of white and coloured breeding females using the best genetics available and to provide on-going top quality service to our clients.

Waimarie Alpaca Farm can be located on State Highway 50 (Rapid Number 3870) and is approx. 25 kms south/west of Hastings. We are 3 kilometres past the Maraekakaho monument and have a sign at the gate. (View map).
